
How to stop your recessed heaters from dying early
If you’ve ever put a recessed infrared heater in a damp spot, you know the struggle. Moisture is basically a death sentence for these things. We’ve spent a lot of time figuring out how to stop that from happening, focusing on the two biggest culprits: water leaks and foggy lenses. The problem with splashes Here is the thing about quartz tubes: they hate cold water. When a stray droplet hits a glowing hot tube, it causes a thermal shock. One second it’s working, the next you’ve got micro-cracks or a completely shattered element. To stop that, we use heavy-duty seals and gaskets around the housing. It keeps the water out and the electrical bits dry. No shorts, no premature burn-outs. You get a heater that actually survives a damp room without needing to be wrapped in a giant, ugly box. Dealing with the fog Then there’s the fogging. It looks annoying, but it’s actually a performance killer. When condensation builds up on the glass, it acts like a wall, scattering the heat before it can even leave the unit. This forces the heater to work overtime just to get the room warm, which wears out the internals way faster than it should. We fixed this by tweaking the airflow and using specific surface treatments to keep the lens crystal clear. The heat goes exactly where you want it, not into a layer of mist. A few things to keep in mind Now, there’s a trade-off. Because we added these protective layers, the housing is a bit bigger. You’ll want to double-check your ceiling space to make sure there’s plenty of room for the gaskets and the air to move. Also, because the seal is so tight, you need to make sure your ceiling ventilation is up to scratch. If the heat builds up too much in that cavity, you might trip the thermal cut-off. At the end of the day, we built these for those high-traffic areas where climbing a ladder to fix things is a total nightmare. It’s just way easier to install a protected unit once than to spend your weekend swapping out burnt-out elements every few months.
