
How to actually keep a wet changing room warm
Nobody likes shivering in a locker room after a swim or a workout. If you’ve ever tried using a standard space heater in a damp area, you know it’s a losing battle. You’re just trying to heat the air, and the second someone opens the door, all that warmth vanishes. That’s why we use shortwave infrared. Instead of fighting the air, these units beam heat directly onto the person. It’s the same feeling as stepping into sunlight on a cold day. You feel it instantly. The secret to the speed We stick with the shortwave spectrum for a reason. It doesn’t care about humidity or drafts. While a regular heater struggles through the steam, infrared waves cut right through it and hit your skin and clothes. We pump these with high wattage because locker rooms are notorious for those freezing gusts of wind. You need that punch of heat to actually make a difference the moment someone steps inside. Dealing with the water Steam and splashes are basically poison for electronics. If you use a standard heater, it’s going to short out or rust through in no time. To stop that from happening, we tuck the quartz tubes inside IP-rated housings. Think of it as a protective shell made of tempered glass and silicone gaskets that keep the guts of the machine dry. If you’re installing these anywhere near the showers, don’t skimp on the rating. You want at least IPX4. That’s the baseline to make sure a stray splash doesn’t blow a fuse. We also coat the frames to stop salt and moisture from eating the metal. A few things to watch out for Here’s the catch: these things pull a lot of power. Before you install a bunch of them, double-check your wiring. You don’t want to be the person who trips the breakers every time the gym gets busy. And for heaven’s sake, don’t mount them too low. Because the heat is so concentrated, it can actually burn someone if they’re standing too close. We usually suggest mounting them at least 2.5 meters up. It’s the sweet spot—everyone gets warm, but nobody gets scorched.
