The deal with IP44 and waterproofing
You can’t just wrap a regular heater in plastic to make it waterproof. If you do, you’ll trap the heat inside and fry your wiring in no time. An IP44 rating is the sweet spot here. It means the unit can handle splashes of water from any angle and keeps out any debris larger than 1mm. We get this by sealing the electrical terminals and using housings that can breathe out heat but keep the moisture away from the guts of the machine.
Real-world installation tips
When you’re mapping these out, remember one thing:line of sight is everything. Infrared heat doesn’t bend around corners. If you put a partition or a locker between the heater and the user, they’re going to be cold. You need a clear path from the heater to the skin. Also, a quick heads-up on the power. These arrays pull a lot of current. Make sure your breakers can handle that initial surge, or you’ll be spending your morning resetting the power every time the gym or locker room hits peak capacity.
