
Keeping Wet Areas Warm Without the Headaches
Let’s be honest: changing rooms and wet areas are a nightmare to heat. You don’t want to spend half your energy budget just warming up the air, especially when that air is damp and cold. That’s why we build our infrared elements to work differently. Instead of fighting the air, they send short-wave radiation straight to the person standing under them. It’s instant. You step in, you feel the heat immediately, and you aren’t left shivering while waiting for a heater to “kick in.”
Dealing with the Damp (The IP65 Stuff)
If you put a standard heating lamp in a humid room, it’s going to die. Fast. Steam and moisture love to find their way into electrical terminals, which usually leads to corrosion or a nasty short circuit. We use an IP65 rating here to stop that from happening. It basically means we’ve locked out the dust and kept the low-pressure water jets from getting where they shouldn’t. Just one tip: when you’re installing these, make sure your housing seals are tight. If the seal is compromised, the rating doesn’t mean much.
Power and the “Hot Spot”
Inside these units, we use high-purity quartz glass to hold the tungsten filament. We do this because these lamps go from cold to scorching in seconds, and cheap glass would just crack under that kind of stress. Depending on whether you’re running 230V or 400V, we tune the wattage to get the heat density just right. If you put a higher wattage into a shorter tube, you get a much tighter, more intense heat spot. But here’s the thing: keep an eye on your reflectors. If they’re pitted or looking a bit rusty, you’re wasting a lot of that heat. A clean reflector makes a world of difference.
Getting the Fit Right
We designed these to be simple drop-in replacements. No need to rip out your wiring or spend hours on a custom install. We use standard R7s or SK15 connectors, so they should slide right into your existing sockets. The fit needs to be “just right.” If the quartz envelope is too loose, it’ll rattle and eventually shatter. Too tight? The glass expands when it gets hot, and it’ll crack. Give yourself a little breathing room and double-check your clearances before you flip the switch.
