
Stop Wiping Your bathroom Mirror
Ever step out of a steaming hot shower and immediately start scrubbing the mirror with a towel? It’s a pain. We use infrared (IR) heaters to stop that from happening. Instead of trying to warm up the whole room—which takes forever—these heaters go straight for the glass. They hit the right temperature in seconds, so the fog never even has a chance to settle.
Making it “Smart”
Manual switches are fine, but they’re a chore. To really make this work, we hook the heaters up to a smart home hub using things like Zigbee or Matter. Here is how it actually looks in real life: You set up a “Morning Routine.” The second your humidity sensor hits 60%, the hub flips the switch. By the time you’ve turned off the water and grabbed your towel, the mirror is already crystal clear. It just happens.
The Nitty-Gritty Stuff
Depending on the size of your mirror, we use either quartz tubes or resistive foils. Some run on low-voltage DC, others on standard AC. The goal is to keep the glass between 40°C and 50°C. But you have to get the power supply right. If you go too cheap or under-power the system, the glass won’t get warm enough fast enough. You’ll end up with those annoying streaks of fog that just won’t go away.
A Few Things to Watch Out For
Fast heat is great, but it can be aggressive. If the glass jumps from freezing to hot too quickly, you risk stressing the mirror backing. To fix this, we use PWM controllers. Think of it like a dimmer switch that pulses the power. It keeps the glass safe from cracking while still clearing the fog. Just a heads-up: make sure your smart relay can handle the load, otherwise, you might burn it out from switching it on and off too often.
